Break the Bank at River Rock Casino

While growing up, I always wondering when it would come time for that dramatic moment where I would crack open my piggy bank and collect the riches within. Unfortunately, unlike the piggy banks at the Break the Bank promo at River Rock Casino, my piggy bank had a re-sealable hatch, and it didn't contain $1,000. Darn.

 Vancouver 1st Annual Foodie Feast

What happens when you bring together two of the most influential food bloggers in Vancouver, eleven of their favourite restaurants, and one great cause? Sounds like a win-win-win recipe to me!

Sherman (Sherman's Food Adventures) and Mijune (Follow Me Foodie) have personally handpicked elevent restaurants to showcase their all-time favourites, while encouraging and collecting donations for the Vancouver Food Bank. From the looks of it, the popularity of this event will demand that they'll need to find a bigger venue the next time around!

 Help-Portrait Is...

I've been involved with the Help-Portrait project since it's inception last year. The premise is simple: find someone in need, take their portrait, and deliver it to them. Not only did Vancouver's photographers rally behind this idea, a greater community came together and Help-Portrait became something more.

When we think of helping those in need, often we think: food. Help-Portrait is a chance to provide them with something different: hope, joy, memories. It's difficult to put into words the power of a portrait, so I decided to ask those involved to tell us what it means to them.

 Thank You

One of the great things about the Help-Portrait event is its accessibility. Anyone who wants a portrait is welcome – there are absolutely no restrictions. Providing such a valuable service completely free of charge was made possible due to a large number of individuals and community groups who donated their time and resources. In addition, many local businesses and organization have stepped up to provide many of the things would've been difficult for any individual or non-profit organization to provide. To everyone involved, thank you.

 Walk for Smiles

Peggy Leung – photographer, humanitarian, and a good friend of mine – always believe in giving back to the community. Why? Because we can. Her inspiration and motivation got me involved with one of her projects, the Starlight Children's Foundation. An organization that brings families and friends together and uses play to help them add balance to difficult situations sounds like a good cause to me.
